Curated - a synopsis

Aubrey is a young mom influencer on Instagram who is struggling to maintain momentum and engagement with her following. But with baby number three on the way, she may have found her ticket to getting back in the algorithm: doing a home birth and live streaming it. As the reactions come pouring in, from her family and friends, but perhaps even more importantly from a growing following, Aubrey discovers she’s struck a chord.

Throughout her pregnancy and leading up to birth we witness comedic, tender, and vulnerable moments in Aubrey’s life as she tries to balance being a mother, wife, and influencer with preparing for birth.

The big day arrives and labor kicks in. As Aubrey starts to unravel in the transition phase of labor, the line between her curated identity and who she really is becomes painfully clear. She must decide if live streaming her birth is truly what she wants and in the process discovers what it means for her to speak and act authentically.

Why we are telling this story

The role that women play as mothers is grossly undervalued and misrepresented in today’s media. While becoming and being a mother has always required intense physical, mental, and social sacrifices, the influence of contemporary social media, with its constant onslaught of public opinion and opportunities for comparison, significantly exacerbates these sacrifices.

Our hope for this series is that those who have experienced the intensity of motherhood in whatever circumstance will feel empowered to both express and educate themselves--to push back against expectations and find energy in centering themselves around who they really are: the superheroes of today, raising the super heroes of tomorrow.

And for the broader audience, our hope is that they will have the opportunity to view pregnancy and childbirth with newfound respect, and feel increased gratitude for those who make that sacrifice. And no matter their relationship to the role of mother, our hope is that watching a mother sort through filters and opinions, will inspire the viewer to see ways that they can stop unfairly comparing themselves to what they see on their phones, find their own authentic voice, and view themselves, and others, with more compassion.

A little about us

Saint Norma Jean Productions (www.saintnormajean.com) is run by Aurora Florence and Jeff Dickamore, a husband and wife creative duo. They met during rehearsals for a play while in college and 13 years, 4 states, 2.5 children, and a dog later they are still doing what brought them together in the first place: telling stories that matter. Their most recent endeavor was creating, independently financing, and producing the pilot for the musical series The Anxious Taxidermist, which is slated for viewing in a long list of fantastic upcoming film festivals. They are currently in talks with producers from Disney, Beacon Pictures, and the likes about development.

Aurora’s background started in music as a classically trained pianist, violinist, and songwriter (she’s a founding member of Imagine Dragons).  She studied acting and musical theater at Brigham Young University, drawn to the combined power of music and narrative.

Jeff acted all through his youth but wanted more and eventually sought professional training, gaining his MFA in acting in 2018 from The University of Tennessee. Before that his interest in contributing to the international community led him to living abroad for several years and becoming fluent in French and Romanian.

Their journey brought them to LA with the goal of producing their own content through their company Saint Norma Jean Productions, whose purpose is to tell stories that are simultaneously honest and uplifting. We truly believe that if a person’s heart is open they are more likely to change in positive ways. And what better way to reach a person’s heart than through a great story.
